Parent Letter

Dear First Grade Parents,

I trust that you had an enjoyable holiday weekend.  Your little ones tell tales of fun, food, family and friends!  We are coming down the home stretch for the school year. We are finishing Bible lessons on the United Kingdom in Bible, reviewing math facts and phonics sounds and wrapping up our reading unit on treasures.

Today we had fun with modge podge as we made our own treasure boxes to store special things.

Tomorrow we have our reading party.  Don't forget to send a blanket and pillow or stuffed animal to make a cozy reading spot.  Be sure that your child's name is in any  books that are brought from home.

Friday we will have The Ultimate Game Show where the students in grades K-2 vs. HIgh School teachers in a trivia game.  (Having paid attention in morning review will come in handy!)

Monday June 4 is our field day and we will have Art day on Tuesday. Then after a half day of packing up and saying good-bye We will off for summer.

I have loved teaching your children this year.  It has been so exciting to see how much they have learned and to watch friendships grow. Please, remember that none of the children will return to school in fall at the same reading level they are at today.  Those who read every afternoon on the back porch, during adult swim at the pool or in the car on vacation will come back to school reading at a higher level.  But those who read only once or twice a week will lose skill and return to school reading at a lower level than they are today.  Please, be sure that your child has opportunity to read and write this summer.  Make it fun. Keep a journal, send postcards to friends or letters to grandma.  Help your child by assigning age appropriate chores.  Visit new places or work on a project or hobby together.  Have a wonderful summer.

Blessings,
Mrs. Ruth Fiscus
