Book It

We are again, this year, participating in Pizza Hut's Book-It program as a fun incentive for the completion of homework and the encouragement of good reading habits.  The program runs from the first of October through the end of March.

I have set the first grade reading goal at 5 hours per month.  That works out to be 15 minutes per weekday.

This is a time for you to read to your child or your child to read to you. Children who are able, may read silently but do ask questions to assess comprehension.

In October - December you may divide the reading time as you wish.

In January - March your child must be the one reading for for at least 2 1/2 hours of the time.

In all months you must read to your child for at least one hour.  Remember, good readers have adults who read to them.

You will need to keep records of the time your child reads or listens to you read.  When the goal is reached turn in  the recording sheet.  I will give your child a certificate for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut.

You are of course under no obligation to get the pizza but the the assignment is homework.  When you have reached the goal for the month you may continue reading without keeping records but do not begin recording  reading for the next month until it actually begins.

Enjoy!  This will be a special time with your little one. You will be surprised and pleased with the reading progress your child will make this year.
